The Air Force STP-R1 Streak satellite was launched into polar orbit by a Minotaur rocket from Space launch Complex 8 at Vandenberg Air Force Base at 7:24 P.M. PDT on Thursday, September 22, 2005.
Tour the Space Launch Complexes of Vandenberg Air Force Base on Google Earth.
The rocket climbed in to sunlight about 70 seconds after ignition of its first stage.
The fourth stage left an arrow shaped plume.
The sunlight illuminating the lower launch trail is reddened by passing through the atmosphere. Higher up it passes through less atmosphere and is whiter.
